What are code 128 barcodes used for?
Code 128 barcodes are used extensively by the shipping industry as well as for inventory, ID, and tracking purposes. Code 128 barcodes are part of many large retailers' shipping label specifications. EAN-128, UCC-128, SSCC-128 and GS1-128 are some different names for Code 128 specs.
What kind of data can be put into a Code 128 barcode?
Code 128 can be used for both alpha (letters), numeric (numbers) and alpha-numeric data. Code 128's character set supports the lower 128 ASCII characters, including upper and lowercase letters, numbers, punctuation, and control codes.

What check digit and/or special start and stop character does a Code 128 barcode have?
Code 128 barcodes require a mandatory mod 103 check-digit. The Code 128 check digit is at the right-hand side of the data, before the stop bars. While all Code 128 barcodes have the same stop bar, the three code sets have unique start bars which aid the decoding process.
